The foundation of our existence is reverence to nature
At Atharva Living, sustainability is not a department or a CSR activity – it is the starting point of our existence.
In the Vedic view, we are not separate from nature. We are woven from the same five elements: earth, water, fire, air and space. How we build, eat, dress, move, heal and relate to other beings is all part of our dharma towards the living world.
Our intention is to create a center – and a lifestyle – where:
- The earth under our feet is respected, not stripped
- Water is received carefully and returned as clean as possible
- Fire is honoured in our kitchens and rituals, not wasted as energy
- Air is kept as pure and quiet as we can
- Space is left uncluttered so that body and mind can breathe
We continuously refine our systems for air quality, water conservation, energy use, waste management, sourcing and textiles, so that the work we do for human wellness also supports the health of the land and all beings who share it.
Vedic wellness without ecological responsibility is incomplete.
Earthwise living is part of the Atharva promise.
Our Earthwise Dashboard
We track and gradually improve:
5,500 Kilograms
of organic compost created each year
27,400 kilograms
of harvest from our own kitchen and herb gardens
97,895
Single-use plastic items avoided through bottling, refills and reusables
Environmental Responsibility
Designed as part of nature, not on top of it
From the beginning, Atharva Living is being designed as a Vedic ecosystem, not an isolated building:
- Structures follow the natural lay of the land wherever possible
- We favour natural light, cross-ventilation and quiet materials
- Planting focuses on indigenous, water-wise species, medicinal plants and trees that support birds, insects and shade
- We aim for low-toxin construction and finishes – paints, polishes and cleaning products chosen to be safer for people and soil
- Energy planning emphasises efficiency first, then renewables wherever practical
Sanctuary for All Beings
Atharva Living is not only a refuge for humans. It is home or corridor to birds, insects, small animals, microorganisms, plants and trees. In Vedic thought, all of them are jivas – living beings with their own purpose and place.
We therefore:
- Treat “pests” – mosquitoes, ants, monkeys, etc. – as part of the habitat, using plant-based repellents, essential oils and physical barriers rather than harsh chemicals whenever possible
- Use eco-certified or naturally-derived cleaning agents to reduce harm to soil and water
- Minimise the use of loud machinery, bright floodlights and disruptive noise at night, so nocturnal life can continue its work
- Maintain small corners of “wild” – unmanicured patches left for insects, birds and natural cycles
The guiding principle is simple:
We are guests in their world as much as they are visitors in ours.
Earthwise Design
Spaces that breathe with the land
Our design language is a blend of Vedic sensibility and contemporary simplicity:
- Building layouts follow airflow, light patterns and key directions, inspired by traditional Vastu principles where appropriate
- Public spaces open to courtyards, trees and sky, so you always have a visual relationship with nature
- Pathways encourage barefoot walking wherever safe, so you feel the texture of ground and stone
Walls, colours and forms are kept calm and grounded: muted tones, natural textures, and minimal clutter – creating an atmosphere where the nervous system can exhale.
Earthwise Art
Art at Atharva Living is created as prayer, not decoration.
Where possible, we:
- Use reclaimed wood, scrap metal, discarded fabrics, clay and natural pigments
- Invite artists who work with themes of the elements, plants, rivers, birds, mountains and cosmic geometry
- Create pieces that are touchable, sit-with-able and meditate-near-able, not just for viewing
- Offer spaces for live music, mantra and classical ragas in open courtyards and under trees, so sound becomes another sacred element in the environment
Earthwise Materials & Energy
What we build and furnish with
Wherever feasible, we prioritize:
- Certified or responsibly sourced wood for furniture and shared spaces
- Low-VOC paints and natural oils for finishes
- Stone and tile choices that balance durability, maintenance and environmental impact
- Natural fibres (cotton, linen, bamboo, wool) for furnishings and linens
- LED lighting and smart controls to ensure energy is used only where and when needed
- Low-intensity outdoor lighting to protect night skies, insects and nocturnal animals
We also plan for energy monitoring to learn which spaces consume the most and where we can reduce without compromising comfort and safety.
Water as Teacher
Water is one of our primary teachers.
At Atharva Living, we treat water as prasad, not a commodity:
- Rainwater collection and recharge structures (where viable) to support groundwater
- Greywater treatment and reuse for gardens and landscaping
- Faucet and shower designs that reduce wastage without compromising experience
- Preference for in-house water bottling using refillable glass or durable containers, to drastically reduce single-use plastic bottles
- Exploration of solar water heating and other renewable options as we grow
Guests are gently invited into this relationship by:
- Visible “water stories” around the property
- Simple prompts reminding us to receive only as much as we truly need
Less In, Less Out
Mindful sourcing, mindful waste
We aim to reduce impact in both directions:
Less in
- Favour local, seasonal, minimally packaged ingredients for our food and herbal preparations
- Support small farmers, artisans and suppliers where possible
- Prioritise products that can be refilled, repaired or reused
Less out
- Compost organic kitchen waste and use it to nurture gardens
- Separate and responsibly dispose of dry waste, electronic waste and medical / treatment waste through certified partners
- Capture and repurpose used oils through safe recycling channels
- Donate suitable leftovers or materials to local shelters or community initiatives
We stay curious about the full life story of everything that enters or leaves Atharva – and adjust our choices accordingly.
Wear it Like You Mean It
Textiles & clothing as part of Earthwise living
Your clothing touches your skin all day. It also carries a story of soil, water and labour.
At Atharva Living, we are committed to
- Using natural fibres (like organic cotton, linen and blends) for guest kurtas, pyjamas and staff uniforms, wherever possible
- Choosing fabrics that are gentle on the skin, breathable and durable
- Preferring dyes and finishes with lower toxic load when available
- Keeping designs simple, timeless and repair-friendly, so garments have a longer life
Our hope is that when you wear Atharva clothing, you feel:
- Connected to nature and Vedic simplicity
- Free to move, breathe and rest
- Reminded that comfort, modesty and beauty can exist without excess

Our Story
Atharva Living – Where Life Meets Veda
It Started With One Question:
"What does it mean to be truly well?"
Before Atharva Living was a brand, it was a very personal search.
Ms. Swapna Khanal didn't begin this journey as an entrepreneur or a wellness expert. She began as a human being who was tired – tired of surface-level fixes, tired of being told to "manage" symptoms, tired of feeling like health was something to be chased, not lived.
Like so many people today, she had her own share of physical discomforts, emotional weight and mental noise. On paper, things looked "fine". But inside, she felt a quiet truth:
"This cannot be what real health is. There has to be another way."
That question refused to leave her. And it became the seed of Atharva Living.
The Moment Everything Had to Change
There wasn't just one dramatic incident. It was a series of small moments:
Waking up tired even after "enough" sleep
Feeling her mind pulled between past regrets and future worries
Watching people around her collect diagnoses and medicines, but not necessarily more peace
Seeing how stress, food, relationships, work and unprocessed emotions all tied together
Swapna realised that we have normalised a life where:
She didn't want to live like that.
She didn't just want to manage illness or wait for the next crisis. She wanted to understand how to live in such a way that illness has less chance to arise in the first place – and if it does, to heal from the inside out, not just cover it up.
Remembering What We Already Knew
Her search led her back to something both ancient and deeply familiar: the wisdom of the Vedas, especially Atharva Veda, and the sciences born from them – Ayurveda, yoga, astrology, and the many healing tools woven through our spiritual and cultural traditions.
She began to see that:
- Our ancestors did not see the body, mind and spirit as separate
- Prevention was not a campaign, but a way of living
- Food, herbs, breath, rest, thought and relationship were all forms of medicine
- The Atharva Veda, in particular, carried a strong spirit of healing, protection and wellbeing
- The Atharva Veda, in particular, carried a strong spirit of healing, protection and wellbeing
At the same time, she respected the value of modern science – diagnostics, research, evidence. She didn’t want to reject one for the other. She wanted to bring them together.
So she became her own first project.
Becoming Her First "Client"
Before healing anyone else, Swapna turned this fusion of Veda and science onto her own life.
Daily Rhythm
Change how she woke, ate, worked, rested and slept
Ayurvedic Lens
Learn her constitution and patterns through Ayurveda
Herbal Allies
Use herbs and simple remedies not as quick fixes, but as allies
Mind-Body Medicine
Explore yoga, breathwork, mantra and meditation as medicine
Emotional Reflection
Reflect on emotions, beliefs and past experiences with compassion
Astrological Timing
Look at life cycles as a way to understand deeper patterns
Slowly, she noticed something:
This was not magic. It was alignment.
And she realised: If this way of living could help her, it could help so many others who were silently asking the same questions.
From Personal Path to a Living Ecosystem
Atharva Living was born from that realization.
Not as a spa.
Not as a clinic.
Not as an ashram.
But as an ecosystem:
- A space where you can slow down, be seen and be understood as a whole person
- A method that combines Atharva Veda, Ayurveda, yoga, astrology, psychology and nature-based practices
- A culture where prevention is normal, not radical
- A community where you are met with apnapan – warmth, honesty, and real care
Swapna did not want to create yet another place that sells products and sessions without truly knowing the person in front of them.
She wanted Atharva Living to be known for:
- Authenticity of knowledge and practice
- Root-cause understanding rather than symptom-chasing
- Preventive lifestyle guidance that is practical and adaptable
- Human connection – where you feel like family, not a file
Why the Name: Atharva Living
The name carries the heart of her vision:
Atharva
Invoking the healing, protective, life-affirming spirit of the Atharva Veda: the Veda of everyday life, health, and harmonious living.
Living
A reminder that this is not a doctrine or a label; it is a way of living moment to moment.
Together
Atharva Living – Where Life Meets Veda
Where the ageless wisdom of our scriptures enters your kitchen, your sleep, your workday, your relationships and your breath – not in theory, but in lived practice.
What Atharva Living Stands For
(The Founder's Non-Negotiables)
From Swapna's own journey, a few core vows have emerged. These are the values she refuses to compromise on:
1. Authenticity Over Appearance
No borrowed jargon, no empty promises. Only what is genuinely understood, practiced and felt.
2. Prevention Over Panic
We don't wait for life to collapse before we act. We build daily habits that protect and nourish you now.
3. Root Cause Over Quick Fix
We honour your time and discomfort by asking why again and again, until we reach the deeper patterns beneath symptoms.
4. Humanity Over Hierarchy
No one is "above" or "below". Practitioners and guests meet as humans first, roles second.
5. Integration Over Either/Or
Veda and science. Herbs and modern data. Silence and structure. We weave them together with intelligence and respect.
6. Planet as Family
Your healing cannot come at the cost of the earth's health. Sustainability and earthwise choices are built into the way we operate.
For the One Reading This
If you're here reading these words, there's probably something in you that recognises this story.
Maybe you're tired of:
Being told "everything is normal" when you don't feel normal
Collecting advice but not feeling truly seen
Living in a loop of stress, symptom, suppression, repeat
Or maybe you simply know there is a more meaningful, preventive, Vedic way to live – and you're ready to explore it.
Atharva Living exists for you.
For the part of you that wants to be:
Truly healed, not just patched
Guided, not controlled
Empowered, not made dependent
Held, not judged
Here, you are not "a problem to be solved".
You are a whole being in the process of remembering who you really are and how you are meant to live.
A Note from Swapna
"Atharva Living is not just my work.
It is the life I am committed to living.
I am still learning. I am still healing.
And I believe that is the point –
that we walk this path together, honestly.
If you feel a resonance reading this,
know that a part of you is already ready.
The rest… we'll discover, gently, side by side."
